Righteousness is the quality of being morally pure or holy. God is perfectly righteous. People in their natural state are not righteous. However, when individuals are born again, they receive a new spirit and a new heart and we are deemed righteous because Jesus' righteousness is credited to us. (2 Corinthians 5:21)
